Indian aviation is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world. Here's what pilots are earning across career stages — all figures are approximate annual CTC in Indian airlines.
* Salary ranges are indicative based on publicly available data from Indian scheduled airlines (2024–25). Actual packages vary by airline, aircraft type, seniority, and allowances.
The requirements to begin pilot training in India are more accessible than most people expect. If you meet these four criteria, you're ready to start.
You can apply for your Student Pilot Licence (SPL) at 16 and begin training. The minimum age to hold a CPL is 18.
You need to have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics and Mathematics as subjects. Science stream preferred but not always mandatory.
You'll need a Class 2 medical to train and a Class 1 to hold a CPL. These are conducted by DGCA-approved medical examiners. Most healthy individuals qualify.
Aviation is conducted in English worldwide. You'll need to demonstrate proficiency through an ICAO language proficiency test — conversational English is sufficient to begin.

Check My EligibilityFrom zero experience to airline cockpit — here's the road ahead, step by step.
Pass your DGCA written exams across 7 subjects: Air Navigation, Meteorology, Air Regulations, Technical General, Technical Specific, RTR, and Aviation Medicine. Aeropath handles all of this.
200+ hours of actual flying — dual, solo, cross-country, instrument, and night flying. We arrange flying slots both in India and at international partner schools for maximum efficiency.
Once hours and exams are complete, DGCA issues your Commercial Pilot Licence. You'll also complete your Instrument Rating (IR) and Multi-Engine Rating (MER) at this stage.
Airline-specific training on the aircraft type you'll fly — typically Airbus A320 or Boeing 737. Conducted at full-motion simulator centres. This is usually self-funded or airline-sponsored.
With your CPL, type rating, and medical in place, you're eligible to join an airline as a First Officer. Most of our graduates are flying within 3 years of starting their training.
